Purpose of the course: The course deepens the techniques of ceramic wheel throwing with particular regard to the serial production of artefacts and medium-large objects, following differing measures and composed of several sections. The course is a professional experience and aims to provide an in-depth analysis of precision shaping techniques.

What you will learn: With this course the student learns essential techniques for the production of ceramic objects through the removal of clay and finishing proceedures. The instruction is by professionals with over ten years of working experience in the sector.

CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY

  1. Mixes and clays
  • Artisan production techniques of basic clay mixes
  1. In-depth analysis of the difficulties inherent in shaping clay on the pottery wheel in respect of how to stage the process phase by phase
  2. Relevant regulations
  • Organization and management of safety systems in designated ceramic workspaces
  • Organization of a water recycling system and of waste product disposal
  • Special waste management
  • Basic regulations for opening a small ceramic studio

PRACTICE

  1. Practical lessons
  • Experimentation on the pottery wheel
  • Experimentation on the electronic pottery wheel and differences between the electric mechanical friction pottery wheel and electronic ones
  • Preparation of the clay mixture with a mixer and degasser
  • Moulding of medium-large sized objects made up of several parts and sections
  • Forming of specific objects in open and closed form starting from a 2D drawing
  • Precision finishing of objects made according to pre-set dimensions supplied
  • Handles applied to shaped objects
  • Production of objects made by removing clay
  • Management and cleaning of the workplace
