The intermediate level professional courses are suitable for all those who, after taking part in the beginners course, wish to continue and deepen their study. These courses are also suitable for those who already have experience of other basic courses or have attended ceramic workshops learning the basics of the trade.
Flanked by master potters, all production processes will be studied in detail, putting into practice all the skills acquired previously.
Some guided visits to sector museums and / or production plants are planned for this level in order to make the history of the Montelupian production center understandable. In particular the main artisan and industrial production processes, past and current, will be considered in their complexity through exploration of some basic ceramic techniques during the course.
All the processing equipment will be utilised and tested, deepening knowledge of the main production phases. This will allow you to immerse yourself in the most difficult and complex topics such as the clay mixes and the differences between the clays, the coatings and their specific applications, the firing systems and the operating temperatures. Also the defectology of ceramic products will be discussed leading to awareness of how to avoid the most common “defects” during the production process.
Finally, some aspects related to entrepreneurship and the marketing of ceramic products will be part of the course. We will study in depth current markets and commercial possibilities, new technologies and their application in the ceramic field.
This level aims to train real sector professionals who, at the end of the course, will be ready to exercise skills and produce ware in the ceramic field with autonomy and quality.
At the end of the course each participant will receive a certificate of attendance and receive, or have received, a training booklet that can be used for all the courses of the Montelupo Ceramics School and the CSS.
